STOKE CITY ROLLERS

The Game

The Game

Flat track roller derby is played over two 30-minute periods. Each jam can last up to two minutes and each team may field up to five skaters: one jammer and four blockers.

The jammer scores by completing an initial pass through the pack and then legally passing opposing blockers on later scoring passes. Blockers use legal positional play and contact to help their own jammer while slowing the opposition.

What to watch for

  • The star: identifies the jammer.
  • The stripe: identifies the pivot.
  • Lead jammer: can call off the jam early.
  • The pack: determines where blockers may legally engage.
  • Power jam: one jammer is serving a penalty, giving the other team a scoring advantage.
